And the Xbox ecosystem will be mostly responsible for that. And if these Forza numbers are big, it’s easy to imagine the first new Halo game since 2015, with the early rave preview reviews multiplayer has gotten, is going to probably be even bigger. We are obviously going to be seeing a follow-up test in the form of the launch of Halo Infinite in just under a month, with that game split between free multiplayer and a Game Pass-launched solo campaign. But for players, there really isn’t anything quite like it. Of course, this is just the gamer side, and the way Sony operates the way it does is because most players will shell out $70 for its top-notch first party games, which may net them more revenue overall than what Microsoft earns from all of its games being on Game Pass, and relying on microtransactions or early access/DLC bundles for further revenue. There’s no financial decision that has to be made, which allows games like this to flourish past their usual audiences. But on Xbox, the only decision Game Pass players have to make is if they want to spend the time to download the 100 GB. Players would have to make a calculation in their mind (“well, I don’t really like racing games, so is it really worth it?”) to decide whether or not to spend that much. In this example, Sony and Microsoft could release the exact same game, but a Sony Forza would cost $70 and only be released on console on day one.
